Introduction to Literature

These are notes that I made long time ago when I was a lecturer.  I want to throw away the note; however, I want to keep the record in digital. It's a review and a typing exercise for me. Note yang dibuang sayang, tapi jika tidak dibuang jadi sampah kertas. 1. Escape literature is literature that is written purely for entertainment; it takes us away from the real world; it enables us temporarily to forget our troubles; it is only object pleasure. 2. Interpretive literature is literature that is written to broaden and deepen and sharpen our awareness of life; it takes us through the imagination into the real world; it enables us to understand our troubles; it is object pleasure plus understanding. 3. Plot is the sequence of incidents or events of which a story is composed 4. Chronological plot is the arrangement of events according to the order in which they occur in time. 5. Flashback: interpolated narratives or scenes (often justified as a memory, a revery or a confessi...

Ellie, my love so sweet

Monday, September 30th 2013 Yesterday, I met an inspiring teacher. Wonderful meeting that sparks my spirit again to pursue my dream. That person told me about the song in Japanese. I did not recognize the song. However, today when I looked it up from youtube, I found out that it was an old song, that I knew it when I was in Indonesia, it was in English. I did not know there was a Japanese version. So, I put the song here, English version and the Japanese version with romaji. Ellie my love so sweet by Ray Charles There were times I left your heart in pain Time again I've turned and walked away I get to where I'm going just to find Won't be happy in this world If you're not by my side Ellie, my love so sweet My heart told me to break away Now I'm out here far away Wish that I could hold you in the night Then I'd wake up to a morning That is warm and bright Ellie, my love so sweet Smile for me, won't you, baby Forever you'll be on my min...

Cinderella is Japanese!

Yesterday, 15th Feb. 2012, I was teaching 3-2 class with Mrs. Sakurai as the homeroom teacher, a student said that Cinderella was Japanese. After the 5 little monkey story, we had a culture sharing time. During that time, I showed them a picture of Hans Christian Andersen and I told them some stories he wrote and collected. Some children said that the picture was Bach or Mozart. In their music room, there are pictures of old famous world musicians, such as Mozart, Bach, Chopin, Beethoven, Schubert, etc. So they thought that H.C. Andersen as one of those classical composers. Then, I asked them to mention Japanese Folk tales. Some of them could mention the stories correctly, such as Momotaro, Kintaro, Urashimataro, Isshinboshi, Kaguyahime, etc. Some of them mentioned Disney's stories. The kids could not distinguish between the folktales and new made stories such as Disney's and Manga (Japanese comics). One of the students said Cinderella. The homeroom teacher replied that it was ...

Christmas message on Dec.25th, 2011

This is the message of Ps. Jacob Nahuway on Sunday, Dec.25th 2011 at GBI Mawar Saron, Kelapa Gading. The message spoke to me and freshened my heart and mind. Full and complete preparation is needed for delivering God's message. As a pastor, he/she should prepare it well. What message should we deliver for the people? Pastors should deliver the message that speaks God's truth, based on God's truth (according to the bible), motivates people, gives guidance and answers people's needs. Personally, it speaks to me that I must prepare myself and the message well before I deliver it to people; therefore, I need to discipline myself to allot time for the preparation. There are 3 people that are involved in our blessings. In other words, we need to share our blessings with these 3 kinds of people. Who are they? 1. We and our descendants (children, grandchildren, family) 2. Levites (God's servants: our pastors, reverends, missionaries) 3. Foreigners/outsiders (pauper, poor pe...
